J16/J17 Ballade
The »Ballade« model is an archtop built of solid wood with plain decoration.
The spruce top and the maple back are hand carved. Hence results the lively and powerful sound, just alike the higher priced »Standard« model.
The »Ballade« is supplied with a simple but tasteful tailpiece, the hardware is nickel-plated, the pickguard is of perloid-plastic. Mundell Lowe (✝), Bruce Forman and Helmut Nieberle (✝) each own such a guitar.

Testberichte
In der Ausgabe 5/2003 von „Akustik Gitarre“ gab es einen Testbericht über eine J16H in der Ausführung als Basismodell. Diesem Modell habe ich inzwischen den Beinamen »Ballade« gegeben.
»Die Sonntag J 16 H, das Basismodell des Gitarrenbauers, kann rundum begeistern. Gediegene Optik, perfekte Verarbeitung, hochwertige Materialien, bequeme Bespielbarkeit und als krönender Abschluss ein akustisch wie elektrisch hervorragender Klang. Ich bin wahrlich kein Freund von gänzlich unkritischen Lobliedern, doch bei dieser Gitarre will sich mir partout kein Haken aufdrängen. Die J 16 ist einfach eine wunderbare Jazz Gitarre, die für einen Gitarristen, der sich optisch, klanglich und in Sachen Bespielbarkeit wohlfühlt, die ,,Anschaffung für’s Leben“ sein kann. Der Preis ist angesichts der Qualität absolut angemessen. Außerdem kann man sich vom Gitarrenbauer Sonderwünsche oder kleine Veränderungen auf den Leib schneidern lassen.«
